Our client approached us after a failed application to demolish a detached house and erect a block of flats. Pre-application negotiations with the Council had stalled, and we were asked to advise on strategy. We arranged a meeting with the Head of Planning and submitted two applications: 1 for a 4-storey building and the other for a 3-storey building. Both schemes proposed underground parking and 6 residential units.
The Council approved the 3-storey scheme, but refused the 4-storey scheme on the grounds of design, massing, bulk, scale and harm to the Chiswick House Grounds Conservation Area.
An appeal was lodged against the refused application and was successful with the Inspector refuting all negative comments made by the Council and referred to the proposal as being of a ‘high standard’.
The development has been completed.
